Install RSKTV Player Pro on Android TV and Google TV

On both Android TV and Google TV, RSKTV Player Pro installs directly today, with the free Downloader app and the code 8864246. As soon as the Google Play Store listing is live, it will also install from the store, including remotely from your phone.

RSKTV Player Pro is not yet published on the Google Play Store: the listing is under review. In the meantime it installs directly, without a store: the steps are below. The link to the listing will be added as soon as it goes live.

What you need

• A TV or box running Android TV or Google TV (Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, Xiaomi, Philips, Sony, TCL…).
• A Google account signed in on the device.
• Your own playlist: an M3U link or a media-server login.

Installing directly, without the store

Until the store listing is live, the app installs in a few minutes with Downloader, a free download app. Just one code to type, and it is always the latest version.

1. Install Downloader from the device’s store: the Amazon Appstore on Fire TV, the Play Store on Android TV.
2. Allow Downloader to install apps. On Fire TV: Settings › My Fire TV › Developer options › Install unknown apps. On Android TV: Settings › Apps › Security & restrictions › Unknown sources — the exact wording varies by model.
3. Open Downloader, type the code 8864246 and confirm: the download starts.
4. On the install screen, Cancel is preselected: move to Install before confirming.
5. Open RSKTV Player Pro: activation begins.

If the install gets stuck

• “Developer options” does not appear (Fire TV): open My Fire TV › About and press the device name seven times, then go back.
• The device refuses the file (“app not compatible”): start again with rsktv.com/downloads/android/maj64.apk, the 64-bit version.
• The download does not start: check the address, with no spaces and no “www”. Some networks block downloads; another network, or a phone’s hotspot, settles it.

From the Play Store, once published

1. Open the Play Store from the home screen.
2. Use search — the magnifier icon — and type RSKTV. Voice search, if your remote has a microphone, is markedly quicker.
3. Open the listing, then Install.
4. Launch the app from the apps row.

Remotely from your phone, once published

1. On your phone, open the Play Store with the same Google account as the TV.
2. Search for RSKTV Player Pro.
3. On the listing, tap Install, then pick your TV from the device list.
4. The install starts on the TV without typing anything on it.

Activation, once per device

1. On first launch the app shows your device ID and a code, then contacts the activation server.
2. The seven-day trial starts automatically, once per device, with no card required.
3. From a computer or phone, open the “My playlist” section of the site, enter the ID and the code, then save your playlist — M3U link or media server.
4. Back in front of the screen, the playlist is already there: nothing to type with the remote.

Updates and safety

• Updates arrive on their own: the app checks for new versions and offers them on screen. No need to go back through Downloader.
• Only get the app from these addresses: rsktv.com/rsktv-player.apk, or rsktv.com/downloads. A file found elsewhere may have been altered.
• Once installed, you can take back Downloader’s permission to install apps: it is no longer needed.

Android TV versus Google TV

Google TV is an interface laid over Android TV: the underlying system is the same and the Play Store behaves identically. An Android TV-compatible app installs on both. Only the home screen presentation differs.
